I love that Damaris is as voracious of a reader as I am!

Several friends are doing a 365 days of photos in 2010 & I am joining them in the challenge. I’ll post here, to my Facebook, & to my Picasa web album.

Day 207 – 7/26/10
A book that I have been wanting to read wasn’t available at any Houston library so I did an inter-library loan. I was shocked when I received it to find out it had come from Hardin-Simmons University library. For those who don’t know, that’s where Russ & I finished our master’s degrees a year ago.

One of the classes I’m taking this semester is Supervision in Ministry. I have to read some books related to the ministry I’m participating in. I’m looking for suggestions of books about relational ministry (i.e. small groups and chaplaincy). If you have any suggestions, I’m open to hearing them. Thanks!

Saturday\'s Week in Review

Well, here we go with the first ever Saturday’s Week in Review @ lorelaicc.com If you want to participate, please go here for the rules and instructions on how to participate.

This week has been a pretty good one for us here in Abilene, Texas. Last Saturday was a typical day with Russ at work. Had a minor plumbing problem but the university maintenance was here within an hour’s time to fix it. Got to love that! We spent the evening relaxing and watching a tv show from the mid-90′s called Seaquest DSV.

We had church Sunday morning. It was very cool that we discussed Twitter during the service. How fun is that! We went to IHOP for lunch and I was really bummed that they were out of the stuff to make the cheesecake pancakes which is the whole reason I wanted to go there. Oh well, the food was great anyway! Sunday evening was more time at home with Russ & Damaris.

Monday afternoons I have yoga. I had a pretty rough evening with bad customer service at a restaurant and just had a overall bad evening. Went to bed with a migraine!

Oh, I forgot, Damaris had Backyard Bible Club at the neighborhood Friendship House every afternoon this week. She really enjoyed the activities they planned for the kids.

Wednesday and Thursday were full of technical issues. I upgraded all our computers to Firefox 3.0 which we are all loving. However, when I tried to upgrade from WordPress.com to self-hosting through WordPress.org, I had nothing but problems. So I’m still here at wordpress.com for awhile longer until I can find a host that will work for me (any suggestions are more than welcome). Also dealing with issues with AT&T. I keep getting phone calls telling me to pay my wireless bill, but we don’t have and have never had service with AT&T. This has been going on for 4 months now and everytime I call to ask them to stop calling me, they say my number is nowhere in there system so they couldn’t be calling me. It’s quite frustrating!!! Their research department is working on this now to see if we can get some resolution.

Yesterday, I got a perm! Here’s some pics from my cell phone:

I’m hopeful it will relax some to be what I was envisioning.

Damaris had a water play day in the afternoon with the Friendship House. I took some pics on my phone, but they didn’t turn out well. They had this HUGE inflatable slide with water coming down it plus they also did water balloon stuff. She came home happy but tired.

I’m continuing to work on increasing my daily walking steps. I increased from 4750 last Saturday to 6250 steps yesterday.

We have a week-long class next week on John and I really need to get a book review finished for that. So my spare minutes this week have been used to read The Theology of the Gospel of John.

So, there’s my week in review. Who’s next?? Remember to go here to read the rules of how to participate.

So, Damaris is participating in a summer reading program that officially started yesterday. She has to read at least one book from six different categories (faith builders, adventures, mysteries, Christian biographies, classics, & fictions) and the total pages has to be 2500. That averages out to about 28 pages per day. I’ve been worrying about her reading recently as she seems to zoom through a book in no time flat, but I don’t think she’s retaining what she reads. So Russ & I had a talk with her last night and she is going to read all 2500 pages this summer out loud (either to herself or to Russ & I). We got some confirmation of our suspicions when she couldn’t pronounce a few of the words and thus didn’t know what they meant. She’s reading a three different books right now -
no boys allowedfor Faith Builders ~ No Boys Allowed – Devotions for Girls (there are 90 total devotions, so she’ll read one of these daily through the summer)
stranger in the chat roomfor Adventures ~ Stranger in the Chat Room
mandie and the mysterious fishermanfor Fiction ~ Mandie & the Mysterious Fisherman (she reads a chapter daily out of the Mandie books – there are 40 total – for school and then writes a summary of the chapter and blogs it at her blog)

So that’s our big summer plans. What do yall have going this summer?
